When you tour Green Castle Estate Nature Lodge, it’s an excellent way to take in the history of Green Castle from the days of the Spanish occupation in the 15th and 16th century, the British occupation in the 17th century through to Independence in 1962. The tour, which takes in key parts of the estate’s 1600 acres / 6.5 km2, also includes the old Spanish sugar mill, the British army barracks from the 1800’s, coconut oil production, the Green Castle waterfall, and walking trails deep in the rainforest. You can also visit Green Castle’s Blue Hole where you can swim and see marine life. Did you know that Green Castles coastline was the site of Jamaica’s second golf course and was very popular in the 1930’s and 1940’s? The old clubhouse although derelict can still be seen if you walk part of the coastline.
