Jamaica's Endemic Birds
“Endemism” is a concept that refers to the geographic range of a species. A bird that is endemic to Jamaica is one that is found only on the island of Jamaica and nowhere else in the world. There are also Caribbean endemics, species that are endemic to Jamaica and one or more other Caribbean islands. Resident birds are those found in Jamaica year-round, but the same species may also be found in other parts of the world. Migratory birds are those that spend part of the year in Jamaica, and part of the year somewhere else. Most Jamaican migrants come from North America, but a few originate in South America.
Jamaica has more readily observable endemics than any other Caribbean island!
